A Death Doula comes into the home to help with the process of death and dying. This can include being present for the death, helping to navigate the medical and legal systems, and being a support to the family/caregivers and patients at this time. The goal of the death doula is to help support the patient and their family. To come together to make this time about what the patient wants, as their time comes.
-Legacy Doula: This is typically 6months-2 weeks before death. The goal is to work with the terminal patient and their chosen family to discuss what the patient wants moving forward. This includes how they want to die, support in completing the paperwork and creating a safe space for this transition.
11th hour support: Being present to help as the patient is nearing death typically 2 weeks to the final moments. Can provide support and guidance through this process, help create a safe space before death, provide respite or viewing support. This may include helping the family to support them as the patient is dying and after.
-Paperwork Guidance: Provide after death support including how to address the after death process. This can include spiritual services, death certificate and paperwork support.
-Home Funeral Preparations for an at home funeral along with support to complete these preparations.
As a mental health provider, I have specialized training in grief and loss that I can provide for terminally ill patients and their chosen family.
